I am an online college professor. I teach composition, literature, and business communications for more than one school. Needless to say my essay and discussion board posting and grading requirements are extensive. I heard about Grading Made Fast and Easy on an online teacher's forum I belong to. The process explained in this book has saved my life. I have cut my grading time and effort in half, yet my students still get substantive, personal, and high quality feedback (probably more than they did before.) I use this process for standard repetitive discussion board replies in conjunction with specific, personalized observation. When I offer feedback on discussions or essays, my students now get a more complete explanation of what the concern is and how to fix it. All this is done in half the time. Before I started using this process I was intellectual toast after about 20 essays a day. Now I can easily grade 40 or more. If you have a lot of papers and/or discussions to grade BUY THIS BOOK.

Thank you for writing this book Ms. Bowman! This is a great book for educators. This book shows you how to grade fast and easy.
You made my life so much better. Thank you for your book.
This is an excellent source for online educators. The sections on the use of macros is especially useful. Thumbs up!
This book was a great help to me because it introduced me to tools (macros, toolbars, etc.) that I was not familiar with. Additionally, it helped me develop and organize my comments/feedback, as well as focus in on what elements of a student's paper I should be really assessing (and helping students focus on). It is a resource that I return to regularly as I continue to refine my grading skills.
This is an excellent resource for anyone new to online teaching and/or grading written work in general.
If you're an online instructor or a professional who needs to know how to provide quality feedback more efficiently, then I recommend that you read Prof. Bowman's book. She takes her years of experience and distills her best practices in grading students. Yes, she shows you how to speed up the grading process. But the *best* part of the book is that she shows you that by making the grading process more efficient you can make the feedback more meaningful for the students. Grab this book!
I bought this book after hearig teh chatter on a forum for online adjuncts. I will start teachign online this summer and most of my assignments require writing. The tips and techniques suggested in this book will make grading much easier. I have shared the book with others who teach in a trditional clasroom and they have said they learned some new tricks too. I can see how this might be too simplistic for someone who has been teaching online for many eyars and knows all the ropes, but not everyone does.
This book is a must-have for instructors who spend a lot of time grading written assignments .... but wish they didn't.

Ms. Bowman speaks from years of experience; hence, the book is filled with her time-tested methods for providing timely and substantive feedback to student-authors.

As a professional writing instructor, I picked up many helpful tips from the author that I will use in the future. My favorite feature is the section about developing your own grading toolbar. It's a genius idea.

Also enlightening is the author's well-supported rationale regarding 'canned' comments. She reasons that the more efficient one becomes with grading, the more time one can spend interacting with students. And isn't that what effective teaching is all about?
